Our first step is to choose the location you wish to have your Portrait taken. Newborn portraits are done inside our Subiaco studio, along with our Christmas mini’s and 1st birthday cake smashes, while the rest are outside on location across Perth.
At Cain Photography we can’t control the weather (sometime we wish we could- just for an hour haha) and we constantly watch the weather report in the lead up to your shoot . If it is cloudy and windy this is OK to a certain extent, but any chance of rain above 75% we will either need to shoot inside (in our Subiaco studio) or we need to be flexible and we will need to reschedule to the next available date that is not raining.

Subiaco Studio
Our Subiaco studio is perfect for Newborn family sessions, our 1 year old cake smashes, along with our Christmas, Mother’s day and Father’s day mini shoots. We are equipped with everything from a change table, tea & coffee making facilities, to a relaxing space to unwind in a quiet environment. Please arrive 10 minutes before your Portrait session is due to commence so we can settle in.
South Trigg Beach
This place at Sunrise & Sunset is quiet and away from swimmers of busy Trigg beach, it is the back drop to many of our Family portrait sessions, if you are a coastal family and spend lots of time at the beach, this place is perfect for you. Meeting location is at 368 West Coast Drive Trigg, 1 hour before sunset or if it’s a sunrise booking, then meeting time is at sunrise.
Watermans Bay South-dog beach
This is hidden to the south of main Watermans bay and this is the location I suggest to clients who want their dogs involved in the photoshoot. It has the beautiful cliff rocks, stunning ocean and little corners that you can hide away from, if you don’t want to be close to beach goers & dog walkers. There will be other dogs on this location, so be please mindful of this. Meeting location is South Watermans bay car park 1 hour before Sunset or if its a Sunrise shoot, meeting time is at sunrise.
Sorrento Beach
This little corner of Sorrento beach (south side) is another great beach location, but you will likely have a little audience even though we crop lots of people out of the shots, it does get busy. This location is another great coastal spot but it has rocks and lots of waves. If you don’t mind people looking and enjoy the strong current, rocks and grass backdrop, this is the spot for you. Meeting point is the Sorrento carpark South of the lifesaving club, the parking lot closest to the BP fuel station. Meeting time is 1 hour before Sunset or if it is sunrise meeting time is at sunrise.
Watermans Bay
If you like WA’s coastal pine trees and a longer beach walk, as your backdrop, choose this location. There will be onlookers, but they will also be enjoying the wonderful beach view from here.
Meeting point is at the circular lookout, opposite the Little Bay cafe that overlooks Watermans bay. Please note there is no dogs allowed at this location.
Meeting time is 1 hour before sunset or if it’s a sunrise location, meeting time is at sunrise.
Bells Rapids
If you love grass trees & a more earthy, Aussie, outback vibe- don’t go past Bells Rapids, it is a drive away from the coast but you wont be disappointed. Please note, there is gravel and it is very hilly, so heavily pregnant mums and those with possible back/leg/knee injuries- please be aware of this before deciding on this location. Meeting point is at the furtherest carpark away from the main entry, closest to the Bells rapid footbridge, meeting time is 1 hour before Sunset.
Perrys Paddocks
If you are after a Cottage Paddock’s vibe, go with Perry’s Paddock. There is grass, a derelict cottage and great big tree’s- giving that Aussie outback vibe. Please note we are not in control of when the long grass gets cut by council here, so please do keep this in mind. Meeting point is at the main carpark 1 hour before sunset at 1198 Ocean Reef Rd, Woodvale WA 6026.
